The Republican Party is the Party of Life and this is unequivocally stated in our party platform
under human services. Over 70 percent of Montanans object to abortion as a means of birth control. We
recognize that all individuals including the unborn, the elderly and infirm have the inalienable right to life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No rights are truly secure without the right to life.
As a State Senator, I was proud of my colleagues who stood with me on life issues such as defeating SB 500
on a tie vote blocking an effort to make taxpayers pay for abortifacients and contraceptives through the
CHIP program.
And over on the House side we barely defeated HB 612 which promoted a contraception and abortion
driven sex ed for our teens while being almost silent on abstinence topics.
Brian Schweitzer’s democrat party fought to ensure minors could be coerced into abortions without
parental or even judicial notification, sent 1 million more of your tax dollars to Family Planning/
Planned Parenthood which is the largest abortion provider, and “killed” a bill defining life at conception and
protecting Montana’s preborn, elderly and infirm.
Brian Schweitzer himself opposed a ban on partial-birth abortions, pulled funding for abstinence based
sex ed, and has the endorsements of pro-abortion organizations, such as NARAL.
As an active supporting member of Central Montana Right to Life, I have received their A+
endorsement.
Support for life is not just words for my wife and me. We financially support organizations that provide
alternatives to abortion for women in crisis, such as Florence Crittenton Home, Carenet Crisis Pregnancy
centers, Catholic Social Services and others. We cannot just sit back and say we support life without
actively providing viable alternatives to abortion.
As your next Governor, I will continue my passion for the sanctity of human life through the many
opportunities with the press, working closely with the legislature, and using all other authority vested in
this office to ensure Helena represents our Montana values and protects innocent human life.
